Canon introduces medical additions to XEED portable projector rangeCanon introduces medical additions to XEED portable projector range
London, UK, 1 September 2009: Canon has today announced the launch of two new additions to its XEED Multimedia Projector range: the XEED WUX10 Mark II Medical and XEED SX80 Mark II Medical. The new models include a special preset display mode that simulates the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard, offering high resolution greyscale imagery with unrivalled clarity - perfect for lectures, medical school and in-hospital conferences. The DICOM standard is used globally, in areas as diverse as Radiology, Dentistry and Neurology, to ensure the interoperability of medical systems so that digital images can easily be combined with hospital information and stored in Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS). Both projectors include an image mode that makes it possible to choose from a range of presets, via a grey-scale chart. This enables users to alter the display so it is optimised for their purposes. For the most accurate display possible projectors should ideally be “DICOM Calibrated” on site, due to the variety of ambient conditions and installation differences that must be considered. These include the type of screen, the performance of the lamp and ambient lighting levels. To this end, Canon has partnered with Medical Imaging specialists - Lariviere GmbH - to assist with installing the projectors in hospitals or clinics. Lariviere produces its own projector DICOM calibration software, known as “AcuScreenPRO”, which corrects gamma and luminance to achieve the smooth grey scale that is required for medical imaging.“The XEED WUX10 Mark II Medical and XEED SX80 Mark II Medical simulate the DICOM display standard, helping medical practitioners to view important images and information in crystal clear clarity appropriate to their needs,” said Rainer Fuehres, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. “Both models also maintain the hallmarks expected of the XEED series, such as exceptional visual quality, high resolution and high brightness.”The WUX10 Mark II Medical has a native resolution of WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixels), while the SX80 Mark II Medical offers native SXGA+ resolution (1400 x 1050 pixels).  The WUX10 is also capable of Full HD video (1080p). Both employ LCOS panel technology to reproduce fine details, without any of the typical projector setbacks such as the ‘lattice’ or ‘rainbow’ effects.  The addition of Canon’s AISYS optical system offers outstanding brightness levels of 3200 lumens (WUX10 Mark II Medical) and 3000 lumens (SX80 Mark II Medical) respectively. Coupled with contrast ratios of 1000:1 and 900:1 both ensure projected images cut through ambient light to offer vivid colours and deep blacks. Both include a 1.5x powered zoom lens to eliminate distortion, with a 10:0 lens offset for easy setup - reducing the need for keystone correction. Users are also able to display images directly from USB drives and digital cameras on the SX80 Mark II Medical. The WUX10 and SX80 operate at a near-silent 32dBA and 31dBA respectively, in Quiet Mode. Automatic set-up also comes as standard for Focus, Keystone Correction, Input Selection and Screen Colour Correction. Both models also feature digital connections such as DVI and HDMITM, enabling direct connection to high-definition digital sources.Features at a glance:Native WUXGA resolution: 1920 x 1200 pixels (XEED WUX10 Mark II Medical) – also handles Full HDNative SXGA+ resolution: 1400 x 1050 pixels (XEED SX80 Mark II Medical) – HD ReadyCanon LCOS panel technology and AISYS optical systemBright projection levels: 3200 lumens (XEED WUX10 Mark II Medical and 3000 lumens (XEED SX80 Mark II Medical)Contrast ratios of 1000:1 (XEED WUX10 Mark II Medical) and 900:1 (XEED SX80 Mark II Medical) for vivid colours and deep blacksNew Canon 1.5x powered zoom lens with 10:0 lens offset for easy installationFully automatic setup: Auto Focus, Keystone Correction, Screen Colour Correction and Input SelectionPC-Free Presentation from USB flash drives or PictBridge-compliant digital cameras (XEED SX80 Mark II Medical only)Near-silent operation: 32dBA in Quiet Mode (WUX10) and 31dBA (SX80)DVI port and HDMI™ ConnectorIntegrated RJ-45 Port for control via a networkBright, rich, seamless imaging
